House Rises

The House rose at 10pm interrupting the first reading debate of the Minimum Wage (Contractor Remuneration) Amendment Bill.

The purpose of this Bill is to amend the Minimum Wage Act 1983 to extend its provisions to apply to payments under a contract for services that are remunerated at below the minimum wage.

The Bill’s sponsor David Parker said there was a growing trend to employment practices which exploited workers and the bill sought to close one loophole.

The House will resume tomorrow at 2pm.
