1. Eurozone finance ministers expect to hear from the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at an emergency meeting being arranged in the wake of Greece’s referendum rejecting the terms of an international bail-out. Events have moved fast since the dust settled on the Oxi vote, and the Greek government says it is working on new proposals to restart talks with its creditors.

2. Prime Minister John Key has shrugged off worries about the economy, but the Opposition are accusing him of being complacent. In its latest Market Focus report ANZ economists say things are getting so bad the government will need to spend more money to stimulate the economy.

3. The lawyer for Phillip John Smith says his client’s rights under the Bill of Rights Act have been breached, and the convicted murderer and sex offender who escaped from custody while on temporary release was not lawfully removed from Brazil.

4. Having been formerly criticised after a woman became a paraplegic in its care, Palmerston North Hospital is now under fire for how it’s treating her, with relatives saying equipment such as hoists are unsafe. The hospital has already said that the woman, in her early 60s, might still be walking if she had been transferred to its orthopaedic department sooner.

5. MetService says heavy rain could create more problems for Whanganui, still sodden from heavy flooding less than three weeks ago. And in other weather news, a cold southerly blast moving up the country could see temperatures in Wellington fall below zero tonight.
