PM Post Cabinet Press Conference on Abbott’s visit and ISIL
By Francis Cook
In a press conference today, Prime Minister John Key discussed plans for Anzac day, Australian Prime Minister Abbott’s visit, domestic threats and the housing crisis in Auckland.
Key and Abbott opened the Australian Anzac memorial at Pukeahu Memorial park early this morning.
Key will be traveling to Turkey tomorrow morning and joining the memorial service at Gallipoli.
Following Anzac day, Key will be travelling around the Gulf States, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, to discuss international trade and security issues with ISIL in the Middle East.
Key said today that people have been contacting the SIS with concerns about family members drawn toward ISIL. He said that the SIS has been successful in dissuading some from attempting to travel to Syria and Iraq.
New Zealand troops will be deployed to Iraq in early May.
Key said he could not say what the exact dates would be under guidance from the NZ defence force.
Finally, Key addressed the housing problems in Auckland. He said that a capital gains tax is not yet necessary as demand is still stable. He did, however, acknowledge that prices are going up too rapidly.
