A short animated film written and directed by New Zealand born Matthew Darragh has been selected for the Courts des îles, International Festival of Short Fiction Films.
Matthew is a New Zealand born Victoria University graduate who has resided in Ireland for the last 14 years. He has made a number of other award winning animated short films, and has worked as Episode Director on a number of TV shows for Oscar Nominated studio Brown Bag Films in Dublin, most recently Disney's "Henry Hugglemonster".
He heard the latest news whilst visiting Wellington. Matthew comes from a multi-talented family, sister Kristen Darragh is a renowned New Zealand mezzo soprano and his other sister Simone has recently run an ultra marathon and has appeared on Shortland Street in her time as an actor.
In November Matthew's Filmbase/RTE funded short film An Ode to Love, produced by Brown Bag Films won Best Animated Short Film at the recent Foyle Film Festival. An Ode To Love tells the story of a man on a desert island who falls in love with a stick.
Since 1999, the Foyle Film Festival has been an Oscar affiliated festival – one of only a handful of festivals to enjoy this honour through its Light in Motions award, sponsored by City of Derry Crystal.
