Scoop Launches Online Community - Operation Chrysalis Update #2

Scoop's "Operation Chrysalis - Reinventing Scoop Together" project is progressing at pace. Since our last update, on
Monday 12th January, we have had two significant developments.
First, on Friday we launched "The State of NZ News Media - A Public Conversation" with two long form pieces of Journalism on the state of the media.
In my introduction to the series "Reinventing News As A Public Right - A Public Conversation" I delve into history of "news" and the origins of the 4th Estate in a fascinating speech in 1787. After discussing what
true "news" is the article addresses why news media in NZ in 2015 is such a pale imitation of what it once was, offers five starting points for our public conversation and closes with a clue to a place to start looking for a solution.
In the other launch piece, Werewolf contributor and veteran reporter Alison McCulloch surveys her favourite critics of the News Media, and concludes it's time to give up on the corporate media.
Today the conversation part of this exercise begins in earnest with the launch of the first official Scoop Online Community.
The community which is being hosted on Wellington's own world wowing collaborative community software Loomio can be
found HERE.
In its first incarnation the community is hosting Scoop's public conversation about the state of NZ news media and the
lair of the newly formed Scoop Support Crew. However in time it will host other aspects of the Operation Chrysalis project as we bring together a community to
collectively work to reinvent Scoop together.

Background To Operation Chrysalis
As announced on December 19th Scoop is seeking to transform itself into a sustainable community focussed platform to enable New Zealanders to build a news
service which ensures they can participate in society on an informed basis during a period of serious disruption to
traditional news models.
As part of this process we have put out a call for expressions of interest in from individuals and organisations in
assisting Scoop in the following ways:
Ethical Investment & Sponsorship; and,
Making a purchase of from Scoop's communications product range (Newsagent, Infopages and Advertising).
