Urgency For Terrorism Bill

Published: Tue 9 Dec 2014 10:17 AM
The House is expected to go into Urgency this afternoon when the final sitting week of the year begins.
The Government has indicated it wishes to complete the remaining second reading, committee stage and third reading of the Countering Terrorist Fighters Legislation Bill after Question Time today.
The bill was reported back from select committee last week after a truncated consideration. Labour has indicated it will now support the bill after some amendments were made to the surveillance powers being given to spy agencies.
Today’s sitting will also be extended to tomorrow morning with the House beginning at 9am to pass the Ngāti Koroki Kahukura Claims Settlement Bill and the Ngāti Hauā Claims Settlement Bill. Both bills will receive just their committee stage and third readings by agreement of the Business Committee.
