The Green Party has been eating into the Labour’s higher income supporters in recent times, while National has made
inroads into Labour’s support amongst the lowest income earners.
Roy Morgan polling information analysed by data company Qrious indicates Green support amongst those earning over
$80,000 has risen from about 5 percent in 2006 to more than 10 percent, while Labour’s has fallen from more than 20
percent to 10 percent.
The analysis shows Labour has also been squeezed at the other end of the income spectrum. In 2006 40 percent of those
earning under $30,000 supporting Labour, but this had fallen to less than 30 percent in August 2011
Amongst those earning $80,000 National’s support seems to have peaked in 2009 and has been gently declining.
