Workers' Memorial Day March to Parliament

Approximately 200 people attended a silent march to Parliament today to commemorate Workers' Memorial Day. The
international day is a memorial to those who have died in their workplace. In New Zealand, 51 people were killed at
their workplaces last year.
Speakers at Parliament included two union representatives, two MPs and the mother of a forestry worker killed last
December. They called for greater regulation of workplaces, accountability for the dangerous conditions in the forestry
and maritime industries, and opposed legislation to cut worker rights such as tea breaks.
