Morning Progress And A Look Ahead To Members

The Government made progress on a number of bills on Wednesday morning as the House sat under extended hours provisions.

The Taxation (Annual Rates, Foreign Superannuation, and Remedial Matters) Bill completed its first reading and was sent to the Finance and Expenditure Committee by 119 to 1 with Mana opposed.

and the Construction Contracts Amendment Bill completed its first reading by 119 to 1 with Brendon Horan and was sent to the Commerce Committee for consideration.

The committee stage of the Local Electoral Amendment Bill (No 2) was completed on a voice vote and was reported with amendment.

The House then rose at 12.35.

After Question Time and the General Debate, MPs are scheduled to debate the first reading of the Kaipara District Council (Validation of Rates and Other Matters) Bill.

Proceedings will be interrupted at 5.30 for the maiden speeches of Paul Foster-Bell and Claudette Hauiti.

Members bills to be debated this evening include the committee stage of the Prohibition of Gang Insignia in Government Premises Bill and first reading of the Employment Relations (Statutory Minimum Redundancy Entitlements) Amendment Bill.
