Govt Progresses Bills
The Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims (Continuation and Reform) Amendment Bill passed its first reading with National, NZ First, ACT and United Future supporting 68 to 52.
The bill was sent to the Justice and Electoral Committee for consideration.
The Government was going to seek a report back date in April, but no minister moved a motion to do this.
The Electronic Identity Verification Bill, the Identity Information Confirmation Bill were given their third readings as cognate bills.
The former bill passed on a voice vote and the latter bill passed by 105 to 15 with Greens and Mana opposed.
Debate on the first reading of the Human Rights Amendment Bill was interrupted when the House rose at 10pm. It will resume tomorrow at 9am.
