Ombudsmen Celebrated
The 50th anniversary of the creation of the Office of the Ombudsmen was marked when Parliament resumed at 2pm.
All parties spoke in favour of the motion to mark the anniversary of the Government watchdog which 50 years ago on October 1.
Deputy Leader of the House Anne Tolley said in the Business Statement that next week would be the start of a two week recess.
When the House resumed it was the Government’s intention to make progress on a number of bills including the bills formerly part of the Customs and Excise (Tobacco Products—Budget Measures) Amendment Bill), Taxation (Annual Rates, Returns Filing, and Remedial Matters) Bill, Airports (Cost Recovery for Processing of International Travellers) Bill and the Legislation Bill.
The first Wednesday would be a Members Day.
Tolley confirmed the Government intended to debate the Alcohol Bill on October 23 depending on discussions with the Business Committee.
The annual report of the Office of the Ombudsmen was tabled, the MPs began Question Time.
