EEZ Bill Passes Into Law

Published: Tue 28 Aug 2012 04:48 PM
The Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Bill passed its third reading by 72 to 49.
National, New Zealand First, ACT and United Future supported the bill.
Environment Ministers Amy Adams said the bill filled a legislative hole in New Zealand’s regulatory regime.
Labour’s environment spokesman Moana Mackey said the bill did not provide sufficient environmental protection, failed to fully implement New Zealand’s international obligations and would be opposed.
