When Parliament began at 2pm the petition of Bob McCoskrie and 48,041 others was presented asking the House to retain marriage as an institution between a man and a woman.
The annual report of the Liquor Licensing Authority for the 12 months ended 30 June 2012 was presented, as was the Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission's Final Report Part 1 was also tabled.
Select committee reports were presented on the:
Immigration Amendment Bill by the Transport and Industrial Relations Committee
Geneva Conventions (Third Protocol—Red Crystal Emblem) Amendment Bill by the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee
Interim report on the Administration of Community Sentences and Orders Bill by the Law and Order Committee
Special report on the 2012/13 Estimates for Vote Internal Affairs: Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector by the Social Services Committee
Visit of a delegation of parliamentarians from the Legislative Assembly of Niue by the Finance and Expenditure Committee
MPs began Question Time.
