Budget And the EEZ

Published: Tue 14 Aug 2012 10:55 AM
After Question Time today, the Government intends to complete the committee stage of the Appropriation (2012/13 Estimates) Bill with three hours and 40 minutes remaining on the set piece debate.
MPs will then debate the committee stage of the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Bill.
Last week Environment Minister Amy Adams said the Government would bring in an SOP which, amongst other things, would introduce the concept of sustainable development into the purpose of the bill and higher fines for breaches of the law.
Both Labour and the Greens opposed the bill at its second reading, but it is not clear yet whether the changes to the bill will be enough to gain their support.
