Greenpeace Anti-Drilling Petition: A Wall of Words
Petition Brings 140,000 Signatories to Parliament

Today Greenpeace New Zealand led the delivery of an anti-fossil fuel exploration petition with 140,000 signatories to parliament creating a wall of boxes, each carrying just over 5000 signatures.
Simon Boxer, climate campaigner for Greenpeace New Zealand was spokesperson for the event. He was accompanied by representatives of a number of other environmental and community groups, several of whom spoke on the issues which concerned them.
The groups represented at the event included, Te Whanau a Apanui, Oil Free Otago, Boardriders Against Drilling, Oil Free Ototah, Clean Energy Future Action Group (Nelson), The Coal Action Network Aotearoa, and Forest and Bird.
Oil-Free Otago also handed over a petition of 2000 signatories against Texan oil company Andarko's planned deep sea operations off the Otago and Canterbury coastline.
Simon Boxer passed the petition to Green MP Gareth Hughes who accepted the petition on behalf of parliament, saying that he would be tabling it this afternoon before question time.
