Liquor Law Reform Process To Be Discussed

MPs will discuss next week how they will handle procedural matters around liquor law reform.

Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee indicated to MPs that next Tuesday’s Business Committee would have a ``broad discussion’’ on how to deal with the Liquor Bill and he would try to get material about what the Government was proposing to parties prior to the meeting.

It is usual for many alcohol related issues to be conscience votes, but it is not clear whether all parts of the bill will treated like this or by party votes.

Brownlee said next Tuesday the Government would seek to complete the passage of the Dairy Industry Restructuring Bill and a number of first readings including the Families Commission Amendment Bill and the Companies and Limited Partnerships Bill.

Wednesday is to be a Members’ Day and Brownlee said the Business Committee had also agreed the House would sit next Thursday morning for third reading debates on a number of Treaty settlement bills.
