Photo Essay: Julie Webb-Pullman: Al Jundy on Day 25
By Julie Webb-Pullman
Today was the 25th day of the
Battle of Empty Stomachs being waged by Palestinian
prisoners in Israeli jails, and their supporters in
Palestine and elsewhere. By mid-afternoon it was very hot,
and with the exception of an enthusiastic group of youths on
bikes, the mood was quiet and almost solemn, as the toll of
weeks without food begins to be felt. Yet the determination
is as palpable as ever, and the appearance of olive
seedlings with the photographs of Gaza prisoners attached
indicates that the struggle, like the olive trees, will
continue to grow.
