October Holidays Event - A Curious Wonderland
October Holidays
Event
A Curious Wonderland
With another week of school holidays to go and the weather still uncertain, parents of young children could do a lot worse than take a trip to Capital E in Wellington to visit a colourful and whimsical exhibition “A Curious Wonderland”
Visiting on Saturday, the kids and I were greeted by a “Mad Hatter” who explained the topsy turvey nature of the world we were entering – starting off by reversing the spelling of our names and issuing coupons for our “unbirthday cakes”
Then it was down the rabbit hole into a world of colour and weirdness.. The Heart Palace through Wonderland Wood, the Jabberwocky's Lair and the hall of mirrors.
There were crafts, riddles and some excellent special effects – not to mention a slightly suspect aroma presumably designed to conjure up the activities of a certain caterpillar.
The exhibition is a delight with great attention to detail (the pleasure will be doubled for children who have actually read the book rather than just seen the movie).
It runs daily
until October 22. Just call in between 10 and 4pm. You can
spend as long as you wish enjoying the madness and you come
home with your own self decorated unbirthday cake.
Splendiferous!
