Letter To The Editor – Don Brash A Racist?
From: John McCormick, Waipukurau, Hawke's Bay.
" Under a string of weak governments, New Zealand (Germany) has been slowly morphing into a state where those who are Maori (Jews) have more rights than those who are not.
The words in brackets above are mine. During a debate on TV during the recent Te Tai Tokerau by - election Hone Harawira challengeed Don Brash about the meaning of his famous Orewa Rotary Club Speech of 2004, if the word Maori was changed to Jew.
The opening sentence of this item is the 4th sentence of the ACT Party advertisement published in the New Zealand herald of Saturday July 9 th 2011 entitled "Fed up with pandering to Maori radicals". I have done what hone suggested to that sentence.
The rest of the advertisement up to you to do for yourself. That the advert published was a toned down version of the original submitted to the NZ Herald is itself alarming.
Wellingtons Dominion Post refused to publish the Advertisements instead publishing one entitled "Act New Zealand's commitment to All New Zealanders."
Its wording is a million miles apart from what the NZ Herald published and its not surprising that Dominion Post readers who have not seen the Herald advertisement are wondering what the fuss is all about.
How fine is the line between anti maori racism and anti-semitism? You make the call.
Dr Don Brash is the leader of the Act Party and he must take full responsibility for advertisements published by the party. He cannot duck and dive and support parts of advertisements.
The fact that the writer of the adverts John Ansell has resigned is beside the point.
Former Act MP Deborah Coddington has called Brash "an old fashioned racist." The cap fits, he should wear it.
Act MP Heather Roy and Don Brash are coming to Hawkes bay this week for two public meetings, the first in Waipukurau on Thursday at 5pm then Friday in Napier.
I will attend the waipukurau meeting.
