Harawira Has Last Laugh
Harawira Has Last Laugh
Opinion – By Jevan Goulter.
He is the champion of the poor, hero of the working class, activist for maori rights and to some he is even the prophecy of Ratana.
Not only did he take on a political machine but he took on the House of New Zealand Representatives.
When the National, Labour, Maori and Act party were against him, he did not flinch, when the National Prime Minister supported the Labour Party candidate, he did not do so much as blink. When the Maori Party flew into the area Ministers and the Labour Party sent Members of Parliament from as far away as Dunedin, he stood strong, when Tariana Turia criticized her own candidate, I guess he had to have a quiet chuckle.
Hone Harawira is the man that will be remembered as he who went against the grain, as the one who paddled upstream against the current, as the man that survived and beat the odds and of course the man who was foolish enough to listen to Matt McCarten.
John Key, Phil Goff and Tariana Turia will be worried, John Key is set to lose the Maori Party which means National will no longer have a maori caucus or coalition partner and voters this year will now have another option other than Labour that support the working class and are pro active.
Two days ago Hone Harawira and the Mana Movement took Tai Tokerau, in November I presume the Movement will take at least four of the remaining Maori seats and a couple of general seats.
Who knows, Phil Goff may not be safe in his own seat. This campaign was run against every political machine in the country, this campaign was run with no resources, no stamps for mail outs, no money for toll calls, this really is the meaning of a ground roots campaign and a people movement. Imagine what Mana will do when it is resourced!
So to National, Labour, Maori and the Act Party, you have every reason to be scared and worried.
This years general election will be a good one, and I expect great things for both Mana and the Greens.
Thankyou to all those supporters that came out on Saturday to cast a vote in support of the future !
