Christchurch and Canterbury have suffered further aftershocks throughout the night, after a cluster of powerful aftershocks hit the region Monday afternoon the strongest registeering as magnitude 5.5 and 6 quakes. The quakes have destroyed much of Christchurch's eastern city underground infrastructure.
After a cold night, Cantabrians face a day of mending jagged nerves, cleaning up, and trying to get back on track toward restoration and normality. Schools in Christchurch and its suburbs will be closed today and will remain so until further notice.
People have been uploading video of the two quakes and we've lined up a series of them that really show just how powerful the two quakes were.

One of my sisters lives out
west passed Riccarton area. She and her neighbours have been
pretty lucky. Her house is holding together, and their
livelihood is all good. But she said to me that the two big
quakes yesterday were pretty frightening.
It might be time for us to roll up our sleeves, and set up a sausage sizzle stand outside Eden Park in defiance of the Rugby World Cup legal bruisers and send the proceeds to the Christchurch Earthquake Fund...
