Defence Minister Wayne Mapp, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Rhys Jones and Commander Joint Forces Air Vice Marshal Peter Stockwell
Chief of Defence Force Rhys Jones, Commander Joint Forces Peter Stockwell and Defence Minister Wayne Mapp held a press conference this morning on the death of New Zealand soldier Private Kirifi Mila in Afghanistan.
Private Mila's name was released following the press conference.
He was killed when the vehicle rolled down a steep bank while on a patrol mission in the Northeast of Bamiyan province. Three others were injured, including one with head injuries and another with broken ribs. They will be treated at the NATO hospital in Germany.
While the cause of the crash was unclear, Lieutenant General Jones was confident it was an accident.
Lieutenant General Jones and Mr Mapp had spoken to the deceased's family. personal details are expected to be released this morning.
