PM's Presser: Gillard, The Gap, And Boot Camps

The Prime Minister expects this week to be dominated by the visit of Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, and
questioning at his weekly press conference also focused on our relationship with our larger neighbour. Topics included
the constitutional circumstances under which Ms Gillard will speak in our Parliament, a new investment regime and the
extent New Zealand is 'closing the gap' with their economy and the level of migration.
At the beginning of the press conference the PM announced that the Government was extending helkp with legal costs to
Pike River mine workers who are required for the official inquiry.
Also discussed was the 50% reoffending rate so far from last year's Fresh Start military-style youth justice camps, and whether the programme can be shown to be
working or not.
