Kiwis Have Their Say On Ultra Fast Broadband - 15
Why New Zealanders want an ultra-fast broadband network.
Every week, we will bring you a selection of comments from Vector’s fibre to the door website.
Here’s what Kiwi’s have had to say this week in support of Vector’s effort to bring fibre to the door of Aucklanders …..
I live in a rural area and internet (dial up - landline is so slow!!) I tried to download a program I brought online and the download was going to take 2 days 11 hours!! Useless really. Fast internet for everyone in Aotearoa please.

EducatorHigh speed internet is a basic necessity for a world class city. I have been living in many countries overseas where the internet is so much better than my home town Auckland. This is as important as the rugby world cup!

DesignerThis is the future. Why delay? We all know it has to happen. Generally no time is as cheap as the present to do major undertakings such as this. Would be nice to for once be some of the first in the world with this "Must have" technology.
JVNew Zealanders are paying far too much for far to slow an internet service. Even in Australia the value for money is at least triple what it is here, it’s no wonder why so many of us struggle to meet such basic costs.
DHI'd rather we (NZ) get the very best we can find and pay the higher cost now, than wait for a cheaper option and in doing so risk becoming third world level internet connected. Our grand kids will thank us for doing so, and what they will learn from high speed (non-copper based) internet access will get NZ back to being one of the very best educators on this planet. Pay It Forward!

MechanicI'm sick of my internet not working properly!
KPBecause torrenting on "broadband" is slow when I'm downloading a season of a TV show and it's 20 GB for the entire thing. Takes about a day and a half and while I'm doing that I can barely browse the internet or play games because the torrenting is taking up the entire lines capacity.
JSI've recently moved to Pukekohe - urban/rural mix, and the broadband here is so ridiculously slow I'm even considering dial up! This is a problem that needs to be fixed properly once and for all. Fibre to the door is the only solution that puts all premises on an equal footing.

Software DeveloperI support it because our broadband is fast for where we live but it could be faster, we live in Karetu, Kawakawa, Far North Region and all though we can get broadband because of the distance between us and the main exchange our broadband is quite slow. We highly, highly support this new move into the world of optic fibre to the door, how awesome would that be, to click on a page and boom there it is, right now we have to still wait for our pages to load even though we have broadband, hopefully this will spread thru-out NZ even to us rural dwellers.

At Home MumWith the current earthquake shutting down Canterbury University it is essential that students have access to reliable, fast internet in order to continue study of stress.

StudentAs a business owner whose core business is providing Internet based services, fast broadband, and no data caps are an absolute necessity. What the nation is getting currently from all the ISP's isn't good enough, and for us to compete globally as a nation, we need a faster, more reliable service.
RT
DirectorIs there really any question why not? As an engineer I understand just how limiting existing copper circuits are, especially when everyone wants "broadband" in a small area in the same bundle.
JKI am sick of slow internet. I have been to Japan and USA and the net is fast, really fast, and I have been to Vietnam, a third world country and they have better internet then we do. What is going on here? We are a first world country with less then third world internet.
Adam
StudentBecause it will give me faster access to all my study websites and therefore allow me to work from home as much as possible.
EE
StudentBecause "broadband" speeds are a joke in this country. Why not call it a slow connection like it really is instead of calling it by a flash name it doesn't live up to and charge us a cheaper rate until the problem is fixed. Please hurry up.
JP
Pest Control TechnicianIt is essential we plan now for the needs of the next decade. I firmly believe the demand for internet services will continue to rise at the current rapid rate for the foreseeable future. It is also the best long term answer to cities' transport problems.

‘Work from home’ IT DeveloperThe capability of faster information can only be a better response time for services. For at home businesses this means we can service and respond like the larger corporates can using large servers. This way small business in NZ can operate in the true kiwi tradition of punching above our weight.
SA
Energy ContractorOur current plan although faster than dialup is still seriously slow and as a consumer I expect the best for my money, and I work hard for it so why shouldn’t I have the best there is?
DM
Warehouse SupervisorFast Internet is our future. The sooner we get it the sooner we enter the 21st century with the rest on the developed world
MG
CAI detest paying first world prices for third world internet performance
DW
Boat BuilderI think it's a great idea - it's about time NZ caught up to the rest of the developed world with their broadband speed - it's ridiculous to have to wait so long just to watch a video... am VERY excited about fibre to the door :)
CNBecause New Zealand broadband is unbelievably poor, with both speed and bandwidth.
Simon
StudentFor syncing data with our overseas offices, and video conferencing we need fibre to the door.
LBStudents have to be able to follow instructions when you give them. Today's youth has a very short attention span and if they have to wait and wait and... well, they will have forgotten what they were meant to be doing.
TAS
TeacherBecause I want my kids and all NZ kids to have access to an internet infrastructure that doesn't disadvantage them in the world economy.

IT ManagerCurrent network reticulation is overloaded and download speeds and capacities are compromised. I want instant access no delays and high speed broadband to increase my internet usage and employ the internet for business solutions.
BR
Business ManagerI have already experienced 100M broadband in Tokyo 4-5 years ago. It’s a no-brainer - roll it out as soon as possible.

The Government plans to give New Zealand a complete fibre to the door ultra-fast broadband network. Vector thinks that’s a great idea and is hoping to help them do it and Scoop.co.nz also thinks its something well worth discussing.
