Diplomatic Night at the White House

Diplomatic Night at the White House
by Connie Lawn

Ambassador Mike Moore had a brief meeting with President and Mrs. Obama last week, during a reception for members of the diplomatic corps. It was held on October 5th, US time. (October 6th NZ time). The Ambassador said the President asked to be remembered to the Prime Minister, whom he called John. The Ambassador also invited President Obama to New Zealand, and the embattled President said a visit would have to wait until his second Administration. That is a bit of breaking news - it shows he still plans to run again in two years, despite the difficulties he has had so far.

President Obama was funny and charming in his brief remarks. But, the scene outside the gates was not as funny. About 10 of the Ambassadors were not allowed in. Some were from Amercia's major allies in the world. There are various explanations for the screw up in the security lists, but angry and frustrated Ambassadors finally left in disgust!

An hour later, President Obama had his own troubles. During a speech before a group of successful women, his Presidential seal fell off the podium with a loud "clunk." All and all, another colorful night in the life of the Obama Presidency!
