Kiwis Have Their Say On Ultra Fast Broadband - 14
Why New Zealanders want an ultra-fast broadband network.
Every week, we will bring you a selection of comments from Vector’s fibre to the door website.
Here’s what Kiwi’s have had to say this week in support of Vector’s effort to bring fibre to the door of Aucklanders …..
As the resident of the house featured in the ad, I wish to have the best possible internet connection that delivers data most effectively. As the speed of the actions and responses increases with Auckland's development, it is really important we design the best possible network connections so there is no barrier to development.
GF
University LecturerI pay for a poor speed and service at an extremely high price and would like to take advantage of the current technology available.
BE
Locomotive EngineerBecause I am sick of New Zealand's internet being so caveman slow. It's frustrating, and highly embarrassing.
JJC
PhotographerWhy do a job twice when you can do it once and save money!
Elaine
Part-time SecretaryBecause I want the generous company Vector to provide me with the internet speed I desire. The morals that Vector displays are something I would like to see in every business.
CH
Airforce Diesel MechanicOur school needs it to enable students to participate in latest educational developments. This includes accessing the school's resources from home so fibre is also needed in homes.
JG
Principal – Golden BayAdvertisement - scroll to continue readingOur current broadband connection is quite slow in comparison to that of the rest of the world
Nick Terry
StudentThe ADSL infrastructure is maxed out with limited connections and limited distance to exchange or cabinet. The less that 1Mb/s upstream is a serious issue for small businesses.
CW
DirectorIts our future, there is no larger forum for communication and or the transfer of information than broadband, so ensuring the best possible speeds and reliability of a network that is future proofed to deliver this, has to be the most logical thing to do for all New Zealanders. It’s just common sense.
KS
Operations ManagerBecause it will allow companies like mine to have their internet business dev/test environments (and even production if pacific fibre gets off the ground) to be physically based in NZ (and become more than a NZ paper company), I can employ staff here, and ramp up development in areas that are bandwidth intensive.
StephenI believe in future-proofing our networks, so I see Fibre to the Door as an exciting initiative and a good step in the right direction to making the Internet a more productive and exciting place to work and play. High-speed initiatives like this will help New Zealand lead the way in discovering the future potential of the Internet, and will allow us to do things online we haven't even dreamed of yet.
JD
DirectorI am sick of slow broadband connections.
KM
MumBecause if it’s available, then we should have it. It’s the natural next step and we can afford to stay behind the rest of the world when it comes to internet.
JK
StudentWe need to catch up with the rest of the world. ADSL2 is good but it is not fast enough.
JC
ITThe near unlimited capacity of fibre will make it unlikely in the future to need to upgrade PSTN infrastructure. For many years copper has been stretched from a voice communication to voice and data using various modems to its last point with xDSL. Likewise fibre will have a long life with, if planned correctly, only the exchange and home terminating equipment needing to be replaced. For myself the primary benefit would be improved remote working with clients. A lot of my work is conducted via remote access VPNs and if working from a clients premise remote access VPN back to the office. I hope that fibre will remove data caps and be not forgetting to implement IPv6.
JG
Business OwnerJust had to down grade my uncapped broadband to capped and will end up with dial up speed.

Student/GamerWe have to move with the times. New Zealanders used to be always to the front in technology and have slipped in the last decade

JRAMThe internet is an invaluable tool in the rapidly changing world. New Zealand has the opportunity to jump to the top of the world in terms of internet capability, and thus open the door for Kiwi entrepreneurs to do what they do best, and change the world with the tools they'll have.
DR
StudentNZ seems to lack internet entrepreneurs, the likes of which developed sites like Google, Facebook, etc., possibly in part because the net infrastructure here is dire. Slow at peak times, ludicrous caps. Fix it! Wellington, please!
ALFor once I'd like to see New Zealand use some forethought and vision and do the job right the first time. Spend money now to save money in the future. There is no substitute for fibre to the door, NZ is in desperate need for an upgrade, the internet is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity. Spend the money required to upgrade our infrastructure to fibre now, then we will have no regrets in the future. Plan it properly and complete the job, don't go half way then change our minds and back out of it!! Don't let our communications infrastructure become like our roading - an insufficient mess!!
Daniel
ElectricianFibre to the door at sometime in the future would bring NZ up to standards that many countries have enjoyed since the late last century.
DSGreater productivity for the SOHO business.
BF
System EngineerGreater capacity & increased speed. Absolutely essential.

RetiredFaster internet is always a good thing, especially now this Stupid ETS is coming it will make creating virtual offices more cost effective against the rising petrol costs.
Scott
Business StudentBecause NZ deserves to be up with the rest of world in the technology and having fast effective internet will make life on the net quicker to achieve what we need to. Why should NZ be left behind!
LB
ManagerIt is a NECESSITY!!
VJ
StudentOur internet is so slow & we have to use it for many assignments & online contact with other students, we need it to keep up with the rest of the world. I'd also like it to be able to video chat with friends & family & of course downloading music & videos etc.

The Government plans to give New Zealand a complete fibre to the door ultra-fast broadband network. Vector thinks that’s a great idea and is hoping to help them do it and Scoop.co.nz also thinks its something well worth discussing.
