Scoop Audio: Man’s death at vampire movie not suspicious - police

A 23-year-old man’s unexplained death at a screening of a vampire movie on Sunday night is not being treated as suspicious, Wellington police said Monday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller told reporters the man’s death was still under investigation and the body had been referred to the coroner for post-mortem examination.

But there were no obvious injuries and there was no indication he had attended the film with anyone else.

Dt. Miller said police had identified the man but could not release his name until they had located his next of kin.

The man was a New Zealander and lived in Wellington but was transient and had travelled throughout New Zealand, he said.

The man’s body was found in the Reading Cinema Complex at 8:20pm, around a quarter of an hour after the film Eclipse had finished.

Dt. Miller said an employee noticed the man slumped forward in his seat and alerted security, thinking the man was asleep.

The police were now looking for members of the public who were in the theatre to contact them and help with their enquiries.
