The World Cup has enabled New Zealand to take new steps on to the world stage, or at least on to the balcony of a small hotel in a Spanish village.

This is in Sitges, south of Barcelona, where an enterprising hotel owner this weekend decided to attract attention (when there's a slump in tourism) by hanging flags of World Cup countries ... and there in the bottom right hand corner, NZ is represented, though in a smaller (more modest?) size than the others.

Still, it's a rare occasion for NZ to be on view in Spain - such visibility is usually restricted to kiwifruit in supermarkets ....
