Today an Icelandic eruption has shut down European Air travel, the above picture - sourced from NASA's MODIS satellite imaging system - shows why. In the middle of the image the brown streak is the volcanic ash plume stretched out across the North Sea. At the bottom of the image you can see glimpses of Scotland between the clouds and on the right hand side you can see snow on the mountains of Norway.
