Why New Zealanders want an ultra-fast broadband network.
Every week, we will bring you a selection of comments from Vector’s fibre to the door website.
Here’s what Kiwi’s have had to say this week in support of Vector’s effort to bring fibre to the door of Aucklanders …..
Because I believe every person in the country will, directly or indirectly, benefit from it.

I live in a small rural village of twenty seven houses, with on last count about seventeen children. Dial up internet is very slow and these children are missing out education wise because of our inability to view a lot of the information that would be available with fibre to the door and broadband.

I come from the US, and find it ridiculous having to pay for bandwidth. It's almost as bad as dialup. If NZ wants to be competitive internationally, the time to act is now, or be left in the dust.

I would like New Zealand to progress with the rest of the world. It is particularly important for students/researchers and businesses to accesses information that the world has to offer without being left behind.

We have experienced huge problems with broadband providers (Telecom and Vodafone) in terms of coverage in our area and quality of service. Fibre to the door sounds like the perfect solution to New Zealand's broadband problems. It's time to keep up with the rest of the world!!

I need faster internet for online gaming, as I am having a lot of trouble competing due to lag etc. Also faster internet would help a lot for research assignments and school internet activities.

Because I already have fibre optic cable going into my house from cable TV years ago, might as well make use of it!

Internet speeds are so slow in NZ compared to the rest of the developed world. It's costing us as a nation and it's simply embarrassing. Catch a wake up NZ Government.
JR
Current internet speed in NZ is terrible, we really need to use your advantage of small land size to adopt super fast network like South Korea, Japan and so on. In short we need to change!

Time is money. High speed access opens all sorts of doors and opportunities for NZ. NZ's remoteness makes good communications essential for worldwide trading. 10 yrs ago the promise of internet TV was raised. It is not viable without high speed high bandwidth broadband.
DA
It is about time we got a faster internet speed in New Zealand, as it is sooo frustrating to have to wait when websites etc take forever to open. It feels like sometimes we live in a 3rd World Country.

The benefits are overwhelming and significantly poignant. Thank you for bringing human interconnectivity meaning and certainly a new era of entertainment. An era most curious and wonderfully awe-inspiring.
ZDH
Because I am too busy for slow broadband.
MS
MotherBecause if we want to be considered a first world country, then we MUST have the infrastructure to support ourselves. Focus must be put on rural areas also, which seem to be forgotten most of the time, which is quite surprising, seeing as most of the countries revenue is generated in the rural sector.

The Government plans to give New Zealand a complete fibre to the door ultra-fast broadband network. Vector thinks that’s a great idea and is hoping to help them do it and Scoop.co.nz also thinks its something well worth discussing.
