Kiwis Have Their Say On Ultra Fast Broadband - Part 1
Why New Zealanders want an ultra-fast broadband network.
Every week, we will bring you a selection of comments from Vector’s fibre to the door website.
Here’s what Kiwi’s have had to say this week in support of Vector’s effort to bring fibre to the door of Aucklanders ...
"Because I run a home based business and I am fed up with the slow speeds at critical times of the day…"
"Because I'm sick of slow laggy traffic-flooded copper connections to the internet…"
"With our current broadband speeds, we are falling behind the rest of the world. Media distribution is all moving to the
internet, with on-demand sites springing up all over the place. With our current speeds, we are severely disadvantaged…"
"New Zealand is already behind in terms of Technological Infrastructure. The longer we wait the further we fall behind
and without solid infrastructure, (there is) no way the country can grow effectively…"
"For growth and a chance to experience the www the way it is meant to be used…"
"Because we need this to have any chance of being competitive in the future…"
"Digital is a part of life all around the world, young and old, west, east, everywhere, and everyone. NZ is a unique and
awesome country and we should be up there with the rest of the world - bring on proper fast internet!"
"Faster and more reliable internet is critical to the industry I work in. The current infrastructure is dated and often
overstressed; we should seriously be considering catching up with the rest of the world."
"Installing fibre is a huge opportunity for New Zealand to keep pace with the way other developed countries do business.
Failing to install fibre would hugely impact New Zealand's future economic growth."
"Who doesn’t want faster broadband?? I’m sick of waiting for the computer to load up and jam up cause of all the people
on line at once. This should of been done along time ago! I’m all for it and hope it happens and soon. Not another pipe
dream I hope. We have the technology so why aren’t we using it already??"
"I know of the benefits fibre can provide and I am fed up with New Zealand's data caps."
"Faster internet speed will change the way we operate our business and our lives - it is an essential feature of our
development."
"Anything is better than the broadband now its so slowwwwwwww."
"How could one not. Having experienced frequently the frustration of 'dial-up' speed. Why was this not done in the
beginning?"
"NZ is already behind the rest of the world with broadband and it is time that this way was made available....Excellent
plan…let it happen !!!"
"Moving with the times. Education is important especially for our children. Work from home!!"
"To get businesses in NZ on par with the rest of the developed world for internet speed."
"New Zealand needs to keep up with the rest of the world, we live in a small town which is still on the old phone
exchange therefore we don't even have something as simple as caller ID, with fibre to the door we would as well as the
fastest broadband ever !! We wont be dinosaurs anymore"
"Because it’s about time we put our money where our mouths are.....so to speak. We are forever getting the run around
with speed issues and technical jargon to disguise the fact that major providers of broadband are governing speeds to
keep there own costs down, while we the consumer get charged for helpdesks to give us a run-around."
"I currently live in a blackhole for 3G there are only three streets affected by this right in the middle of Mt Eden,
yet we are not in the shadow of the volcano. However we are kept in the dark ages by providers who are charging the
world for services that aren't keeping up with the world."
"Fast broadband = more productivity, better convenience, lower prices."
"Because I have been overseas and used the internet over there, what we have in New Zealand is embarrassing and calling
it broadband and selling it as such is a joke, we are totally overcharged for a 3rd world service... wait sorry some 3rd
world nations have better internet"
"We are a world leader in so many other areas so why do we have slow 3rd rate broad band, and ridiculous cell phone
charges when compared to the rest of the world. We have the audacity to call parts of India 3rd world, but their broad
band is fastest than ours, c'mon its time we stepped up, we expect our business's to compete on the world stage and then
we don’t give them the tools. Why are we even being asked, it’s a needed and the longer we wait the more it will cost."
