Honduras Election Update 2 - Sunday 29 November

Internet access has been sporadic, accordingly so also will be the updates!

Ricardo Hueso and Miguel Alonso are both safe following the raid on the two COMAL Network premises. However the military broke down doors and trashed the offices.

Angel Salgado Hernandez, shot in the early hours of 28 November, remains in a coma in Escuela Hospital. In an inconceivably cruel action, the military refuse to allow his life support to be turned off despite the fact that half his head has been blown away and he cannot possibly survive. They are determined that his death not officially occur until after the elections, causing needless additional suffering for his devastated family

This is merely one of the dirty tricks the regime is using to keep the electoral process ‘clean’ for the morally bereft countries lining up to recognise them.

In other news, at the same hospital last night a bomb exploded, injuring a young boy – we are awaiting the details of this attack. Similarly we are awaiting details of the three bombs which exploded in La Joya neighbourhood of Tegucigalpa.

Throughout the country overnight there have been numerous reports of raids on houses, and detentions, beatings and bombings. Whilst some rural areas have seen the military presence drop significantly, this has been in order to strengthen it in other areas, where roadblocks and checkpoints have sprung up like mushrooms.

There are confirmed detentions in Danli, and the wife and child of a candidate in San Francisco have been murdered. All of the following sreas have reported repression -

Colonia Kennedy and El Reparto, in Tegucigalpa; in Gualala, Santa Barbara; in San Pedro Sula, Cortés. The workplace of the director of the democratic Unificaztion Party, Gregorio Baca was entered with force and the disbaed caretaker, Humberto Castillo was detained, also the house of Percy Durón, the brother of a Radio América journalist was also raided.

The streets of Tegucigalpa this morning are eerily empty, the first vehicle to pass as we left the hotel for the COFADEH offices being a truckload of ski-masked police armed with automatic weapons.

The borders with El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala are closed, and bus services in and out of the country suspended.

Information continues to come into the CODAFEH offices from around the country, and a Press Conference is slated for 11am, to bring us up to date with extent of the repression, and the state of resistance, throughout the country. Stay tuned.
