1220 - The Kids Don't Stand A Chance

At 1220 the Minister for Social Development Paula Bennett will be on the line talking jobs for young people. Her ministry has just announced a couple of measures aimed at dealing with unemployed youth who now number more than sixty thousand. The ministry has announced an extra 2000 places on the Job Ops scheme, where employers receive $5000 for employing a young person for six months. And they've also pledged around $1 million to help promote Student Job Search. But will any of this actually make it easier for young people to find work?

1240 - What I Did In Iraq

At 1240 we hear from an old friend of the Wire, peace activist Harmeet Sooden. He's the guy who was detained and expelled by Israeli forces last year, and the guy who was kidnapped by Iraqi terrorists four years ago. Well, he's just returned from ANOTHER trip to Iraq, more specifically to the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region in the north of the country. He was there to focus public attention on the challenges people are facing, and to document the human rights situation. He's back now, and will be in the studio at 1240 to tell us all about it.

1300 - An Excercise In Hypocrisy

Business, political and environmental commentator Rod Oram joins us at one today to discuss the Emissions Trading Scheme - which incorporates all those 3 things! He wrote a pretty scathing piece over the weekend in the Sunday Star Times which began thus: "The Government has made an utter mockery of the emissions trading scheme". Ouch. He'll be on the line to discuss how he sees National have abused the country's political system and lumped future generations with an even heavier burden.

1320 - Counterclockwise: Aue

Spike Mountjoy is on the line at 1320 for some political meandering in counterclockwise, brought to us by the good folks at scoop. Today, a bit of a spotlight on the Maori Party. How have they found themselves wrapped up in an Emissions Trading Scheme they rejected less than a year ago, how did they get a win on the whole flag flying thing, and why has the prodigal son returned to the fold?

1340 - Transit of Venus & Nosferatu

And at the end of the show we talk to Kristie Addison, a multi-instrumentalist and composer who fronts a band called Transit of Venus. They're doing something pretty special tomorrow night atTAPAC in Western Springs: a live accompaniment of to F.W. Murnau's legendary silent vampire epic from the '20s, Nosferatu. Kristie will be in the studio at 1340 to shed some light on this very dark undertaking.
