1215: ACC Minister Nick Smith
The government has announced a widespread shake-up to ACC and the levies that New Zealanders pay for accident insurance are likely to rise. Numerous arguments have been expressed in the media this morning over the fairness of these changes and I’ll have ACC Minister Nick Smith on the Wire at 1215 to discuss the proposed changes and go over criticism the plans have received.
1245: Bernard Hickey from Interest.co.nz
The final government accounts for the year ended June showed a dramatic $12.9 billion annual decline in the headline operating balance, a $10.5 billion deficit at the end of 2009 compared to $2.3 billion surplus in 2008. To explain why this has happened and what exactly it means, I’ve got Bernard Hickey from Interest.co.nz on the show.
1300: New Zealand Education Institute President Frances Nelson
After a long-winded dispute, Education Minister Anne Tolley has struck a deal with primary school unions that will see them work together in ironing out the government’s controversial national standards policy. Earlier in the year I’ve had critics of the scheme on the Wire who discussed their opposition to the idea of national standards in primary schools and today Frances Nelson, the President of the New Zealand Education Institute joins me on the Wire at 1300 to discuss the deal between the unions and the Education Ministry.
