At 1215: I’m talking to Jim Tucker, media commentator and head of broadcasting at Whitirea Polytechnic. He’ll be giving his two cents and insight into a survey conducted by UMR Research in which a quarter of the 750 questioned believed the country's media report inaccurately, a third think coverage is one-sided, and half believe the media is unwilling to admit mistakes.
Then at 12:30: Gary Froggatt, the President of the Tramways Union, will join me on the Wire to talk about the lock-out of bus workers, the context of today’s action and just where negotiations are at, and what the union’s next step is.
At 13:10: I’ll play an interview that I did this morning with Greek Sound Artist ILIOS who has been creating sound art since the early 90’s and has had art installations in 170 countries worldwide (including at the Christchurch City Art Gallery). He spoke, among other things, about how he tries to make sound a physical experience for those witnessing his performances, using the performance space itself as an instrument.
At 13:30: It’s time for Dear Science with Peter Griffin from the Science Media Centre. This week Peter will go over the Marsden grants that were announced today as well as some of this year's the highlights from the Nobel Prize for Physics awards.
At 13:40: Pennie Blair will be in to review “ The Monthly” as part of Papercuts, the weekly magazine review on the Thursday Wire. “ The Monthly” is an Australian publication, involving itself with politics, society and culture (keeping their focus narrow it seems). Pennie hasn’t given me a heads up on the quality of this one, but she does tell me that the issue she does have is sporting Nick Cave on the cover.
