Comply with the will of the people, says Zelaya
Havana, Sep 21 (AIN) I am fulfilling the will of the people of Honduras by my return to the country, said President José Manuel Zelaya today in Tegucigalpa, having been in his homeland since this morning.
The constitutional head of state said in an exclusive communication with the network Telesur that he "dodged a thousand obstacles" for four days to arrive in the Honduran capital.
"With a peaceful strategy to avoid provoking violence, we made it," he said, indicating that within hours he intends to begin a dialogue with representatives of the de facto government to restore constitutional order.
The dignitary described his return as very significant given that the United Nations General Assembly will meet this week.
Adriana Sivori, Telesur correspondent, confirmed that the President hoped to meet with representatives of the de facto government at the UN headquarters to negotiate a solution to the nation’s political crisis, 86 days after the coup.
In the meantime, numerous members of the resistance have been arriving at the United Nations building in Tegucigalpa to support Zelaya.
Resistance leaders said they received a call from the president to inform the location.
Eduardo Reina, a presidential advisor, made a call to friends around the world to let them know that Zelaya is in Tegucigalpa.
"This is a party, the people are coming to receive their President, who has been missed," he said.
Beatriz del Valle, Vice Chancellor, said it is a day of celebration, a prize for the Honduran people who have fought so hard to restore democracy.
