12:15 Freedom camping doesn’t come cheap
New bylaws came into effect in the Thames Coromandel District yesterday, which could put a damper on your summer holidays for the more free-spirited amongst you. If you’re caught sleeping under the stars somewhere that’s not part of a campground or holiday park, you’ll be fined $40 for the privilege. Kim speaks to Geoff Ensor from the Tourism Industry Association, which runs the Freedom Camping Forum.

12:40 Prison numbers through the roof
We’ve heard this week that the country has more inmates in our prisons than ever before. Corrections Minister Judith Collins says the stats were released because the public has a right to know, but Labour spokesman Clayton Cosgrove says it’s highly coincidental that the announcement was made on the same day as the Corrections Association took the Corrections Department to court over the double bunking issue.
