An Iceberg in Wellington Harbour!?

A freak iceberg about the size of a Fiat Bambina found its way into Wellington harbour this week. Arriving during a mid-winter warm snap, the block has come to rest near the Tugboat restaurant off Oriental Parade. It is not the first lump of ice to find its way into New Zealand waters. In 2006 tourists took helicopter trips out to a massive iceberg of the coast of Dunedin. Scientists say this berg may be the remains of Antarctica's western ice shelf.

Apparently a group of anonymous artists are responsible for this "iceberg", which is in fact a lump of polystyrene, glued together at Weta Workshop. The stunt is intended to draw attention to the perils of climate change.
