1220 - Kiwisaver Success? Michael Littlewood, Retirement Policy and Research Centre co-director
Kicking off the show today with a little bit of reflection. Kiwisaver reflection. See, critics of the scheme have crawled out of the woodwork following the release of a report by the Retirement Commission that shows fewer NZers are saving for their retirement now than there were 4 years ago - before the launch of Kiwisaver. The work-based scheme has so far only managed to win over about a million members, or a third of all those eligible. Epic fail? Not quite, but still not great according to my first guest (above) who calls the scheme "a solution looking for a problem."
1240 - Ali Shariat, Iranian politics student, and concerned ex-pat.
At 1240 I'll be joined in the studio by (above) who'll tell us what he knows of the ongoing turmoil in Iran. The Iranian Government is blaming new technology and the Western media for "meddling" in the country's matters, with one Foreign Ministry spokesperson stating the West is supporting the violent protests in the country and creating "anarchy." Does Ali think this is the case, or are they just getting the story out as and when it happens?
1300 - Mayor of Rodney Penny Webster
At one (above) will be on the line to explain why they've made a submission to the Select Committee on Auckland governance asking to be left out of the super-city. She says Rodney, while making up around 45% of the land area of greater Auckland, is made up of small rural communities facing very different issues from those of metropolitan Auckland.
1320 - Counterclockwise
Alistair Thompson joins us from the June news vacuum at the scoop headquarters at 1320. Today he'll be taking a look at the government's recently criticised record on job creation and retention, as well as poking around inside the referendum on smacking - which saw the launch of the Simon Barnett fronted vote no campaign earlier this week.
1340 - World Self-Esteem Day, Janice Davies
And a bit more reflection to end the show - this time self-reflection. Wouldn't you know it? Today just happens to be International Self-Esteem Day, or "Selfday". Paul, you are a great, great person.
The woman with "nice" in her name (above) created the day because she sees low self-esteem as a key contributor to many of our social and educational problems. Drawing on 20 years of teaching self-empowerment to groups and individuals, Janice wantsSelfday to jump start people into action, to take care of and honour themselves.
