The Monday Wire Hosted By Kim Choe

18th May 2009

12:00 bNews, Weather and Surf

12:45 Streamlining justice – Jonathan Krebs, NZ Law Society

Justice Minister Simon Power has announced his intentions to streamline the justice system – saving time and money by proposing that anyone facing charges punishable by less than three years in prison should be able to be tried by a judge alone instead of a jury. He also wants to stop defence lawyers from ‘gaming’ the system. What does the NZ Law Society think about all of this? Kim talks to spokesman Jonathan Krebs.

1:05 Ethnic Diversity FTW – Philippe Le Grain
“Ethnic diversity”is such a buzz phrase these days…Kim talks to a visiting economist/journalist who thinks it will help lift New Zealand out of the recession. His proposition is simple: diversity boosts creativity, innovation, and ultimately economic growth. So how can New Zealand make this work?

1:40 The Green Desk
Simon Miller talks to Laura Faire, one of the authors of Shop Local, Eat Well - a guide to shopping and cooking locally-sourced, seasonal produce to reduce food miles and generally be a good little green camper.
