12:15 Power to the Pharmacists – Annabel Young,
Pharmacy Guild CEO
The Government is considering letting
pharmacies play a bigger role in the primary healthcare
system. Pharmacists say they should be given increased
responsibilities as first point of contact for some
services, including nicotine replacement and the managing of
chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes. The debate
has no doubt been spurred on by the latest
flu-scare-that-shall-not-be-named, but will it work in the
long term?
12:30 Migrants’ future uncertain
after law change – Barry Smedts, Immigration Advisers
Authority registrar
A law change
coming into effect today requires all immigration
consultants to be registered before they can process
applications for their clients. So far only 171 of an
estimated 1200 consultants have paid the almost-$2000
licence fee, and as a result many migrants have been left
wondering what the status of their applications will be
now.
12:50 Australiamuscles up – Neil James,
AustraliaDefence Association
Australia’s Defence
Department has asked the government to find $20 million to
purchase extra submarines, warships, and fighter jets –
which it says it will need to defend its interests in the
Asia Pacific region. Who, or what, are they referring to?
And should we be worried? (The Australia Defence Association
is an independent, community-based think-tank on defence and
national security interests.)
