The Prime Minister today announced that Section 92A of the Copyright Act will not come into force as written. Described by campaigners as leading to 'guilt on accusation', the section has been referred to Minister of Commerce Simon Power to be redrafted with comment from selected experts (Simon Power's press release). The commencement of the section, passed under the previous Government, had previously been delayed until March 27.
Also discussed were possible legal protections for workers able to "cash in" their fourth week of leave, bonuses for voluntary student loan repayments, the scrapping of TVNZ's charter, the Prime Minister's haziness on various cabinet papers and the options for a national cycleway.
This week the Government will be receiving and considering the report into Auckland local government. Parliament will see debate on Judith Collins' Corrections (Contract Management Of Prisons) Bill and the Government's Budget Policy Statement.
