Labour Select Candidate For Safe Rimutaka Seat

Labour have selected Beehive political advisor Chris Hipkins as the candidate for the safe Rimutaka seat in 2008. The current MP for Rimutaka, Paul Swain, is retiring from politics. Mr Swain had been a was the former Minister for Immigration and Corrections in the 2002-2005 Labour Government. Mr Hipkins had a background in student politics before gaining work in the Beehive and has worked for Trevor Mallard and the Prime Minister. In the last election Mr Swain held Rimutaka with a buffer of over 8,000 votes from his nearest rival.
