Scoop Feedback: Robert Marshall of Rainbow Youth's Response to the SPCS release entitled "Concerns Raised Over Minister and Gay Agenda"
The SPCS are clearly prejudice against sexual minorities. This kind of homophobia puts undue stress on
gay/lesbian/bisexual youth and impairs educational performance. Not just for sexual minorities but for all students. We
need to equip teachers with some tools and skills to reduce prejudice against sexual minority youth and to create an
inclusive classroom and school environment.
Such attitudes toward differences should not be tolerated. Sexual orientation is the attraction one feels toward either
or both sexes. This trait is a "stable, behavioural polymorphism". There are two basic orientations, with 90% accounting
for the majority population and around 10% for the minority orientation. Evidence from art history suggests the
incidence of the two orientations has been constant for five millennia. Neither orientation is chosen. Neither
correlates with any with any disease or mental illness. Neither is Pathological.
