Primary
Concern : The Way Forward For Meat Industry -
Farmer shareholders need to commit to a philosophy,
according to MIAG Chairman Mark Crawford. "Farmers need to
be encouraged to produce a quality product on time and to
certain specifications through long term supply agreements.
With a floor price and certainty of supply, the companies
could then focus 100% on the market with innovation where
the real gains are to be made." More

Annual Leave Drives Non-Wage Labour Costs - Labour
costs rose 3.9 percent in the year to the June 2007 quarter,

annual increase since the series began in the December 1992
quarter. The salary and wage rates (including overtime)
component of the Labour Cost Index (LCI) rose 3.2 percent
from the June 2006 to the June 2007 quarter, while the
non-wage labour costs component rose 8.1 percent The
increase in minimum annual leave entitlements was the main
reason for the increase. More

White
House: George Bush Attends Congressional Gold Medal
Ceremony Honoring Dalai Lama - Nearly two decades
have passed since the Dalai Lama was welcomed to the White
House for the very first time. Members of both of our
political parties and world leaders have seen His Holiness
as a man of faith and sincerity and peace. He's won the
respect and affection of the American people -- and America
has earned his respect and affection, as well. As a nation,
we are humbled to know that a young boy in Tibet -- as a
young boy in Tibet, His Holiness kept a model of the Statue
of Liberty at his bedside. More

Women's
Affairs: More Money Needed To Prevent Maternal
Deaths - With one woman dying every single minute
from complications during pregnancy or childbirth, United
Nations Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro today

Crisis
in Burma: Can the U.S. Bring About A Peaceful
Resolution? - While the streets of Rangoon are now
eerily "calm" and the regime tries to project a return to
"normalcy and stability," the situation is anything but
normal. The October 13 arrest of "88 Generation Students"
activist Htay Kywe and four others illustrates that the
regime is continuing its harsh crackdown. The death last
week of National League for Democracy (NLD) member Win Shwe,
who was arrested and tortured by the authorities, is only
the most visible and personal manifestation of this cruelty.

Happy
Days: Antarctic Ozone Hole Shrinking Because Of Mild
Weather, Not Recovery - Although the ozone layer
over the Antarctic this year is relatively small, this is
due to mild temperatures in the region's stratosphere this
winter and is not a sign of recovery. Instead, it is due to
mild temperatures in the stratosphere, which still contains
sufficient chlorine and bromine to completely destroy ozone
in the 14-21 kilometer altitude range. More
