Fashion Week: Ricochet To Build Iron Maiden Brand
Ricochet debuted their Winter 08 collection entitled "Iron Maiden" in their highly anticipated first show at ANZFW. Designers Tatjana Windhager and Rebecca Maguire say they hope to build the brand further as a result of the show, and also wanted to give back to locals who've supported them over the years.
I should have known from the name, and from Ricochet's reputation, to expect a broodingly dark show. First up was an armour-inspired singlet adorned with metal disks through the front – both Tatjana and Rebecca's favourite piece of the collection – matched with a black knit scarf and slinky mini. We then saw silk hooded smock dresses, leather biker jackets, and metallic tops.
The predominantly dress-based collection features subtle details that turns simple into glamorous and distinctive, with for example glistening embellishments adorning the shoulder of a silk frock. A black palette dominated throughout, with a hint of colour shown through animal prints and metallics – silver in particular, a trend we've seen consistently for Winter ‘08. Tatjana tells me the reason for the dark palette was to stay true to the label’s roots - "it's all about being dark!"
Accessories were strong with low-slung necklaces, fingerless gloves, leopard print tights, and wide leather belts. Makeup, created by Shiseido, fitted perfectly with the range – eyes were bold with thick eyeliner and electric blue shadow, complimented with the glossiest of lips.
The show was very cohesive and each outfit flowed nicely, though as the show finished I wondered if that was because it was all much of the same? Almost every garment was black and a narrow silhouette dominated throughout. I've concluded however that it's what Ricochet does best and as their first show that's what the label aimed to illustrate.
