Fashionz.co.nz: Federation, For Good
Federation recently made it to the final round at the at the 2007 Sportswear International Fashion Awards, and judging by what was on offer last night from both Federation, and their new label, For Good, the accolades they have been getting from Christopher Blomquist, of Sportswear International, are well deserved.
Federation's collection "frozen solid' was true to its name with graphics of abominable snowmen, snowy mountain peaks,
and other icy scenes dominating the fabric prints.
For women, heavy wool hooded jumpers that doubled as dresses sat among stiff, unwashed denim and bunch waisted skirts -
and tartan made an appearance at yet another fashion week show. Federation's version is of the primary school tunic
variety, and despite its predictability, is very wearable.
Sportswear and sweat gear went all high fashion on us, with tapered tracksuit pants, textured fabrics, and ultra-long,
slouchy hoodies. The trusty parka made an appearance in electric blue. The neon print nu-rave tees, and slouchy
'boyfriend trousers' were key pieces - who would have thought that rock chick and sporty could go together so nicely.
Half of me had hoped that the emo look was on the way out for winter '08, but Federations men's collection contained the
pants of every emo's dreams.
For Good showed us a far more high fashion take on sports wear with their androgynous collection 'Leader of the Pack'
that often saw the same pieces being worn by both men and women.
The women's range sees waistcoats, a token body suit, loose dresses and sloppy jumpers in electric blue, vibrant orange
red and pale neons form a background for ironic wild animal references, and snakeskin is a dominating print. Luxury
chiffons and silks add an unexpected feel of couture to the range.
The men's range is smartly tailored, with great knitwear staples and rock 'n' roll leather jackets.
The only low point was the high waisted, Bermuda style shorts - even the poor model could not pull them off which says a
lot for how the rest of us would look in them.
