Director of the NZSIS Warren Tucker reads out a prepared statement regarding Ahmed Zaoui

The Director of New Zealand's Security Intelligence (NZSIS) Service Warren Tucker this afternoon told the media that Ahmed Zaoui - the one and only recipient of a security risk certificate - was no longer considered by the NZSIS to be a security risk.

Mr Tucker informed media at the top of the Crown Law Building in Wellington that while the initial security risk certificate (presented to Mr Zaoui in 2003) had been justified, as a result of new evidence Mr Zaoui was no longer considered to be a security threat to New Zealand.
After reading out a prepared statement the elusive head of the NZSIS could not be pinned down into a potentially stressful position and quizzed further on the matter.
According to the Prime Minister Mr Tucker had made an 'independent statutory decision' and the Director had her 'full confidence'
While the security risk certificate was lifted Mr Zaoui had to sign a document in which he undertook certain undertakings to the NZSIS.
