On Saturday the 22nd I stood in the queue at the Borders on Lambton Quay among other Harry Potter fans anxiously awaiting the release of the last book in the series— Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows.
It was nearly 10:30 when the line stretched down the street passing the Burger King. I was then approached by an older man who asked “What is this queue for?”
“The new Harry Potter book”, I said. He looked at me as if I had said something completely unintelligible and then turned, giving a look of disapproval as he headed back to the rock he had been hiding under for the last decade.
Finally, 11:00 came and the countdown began. After 11:01 hit the line moved quickly as eager fans snatched up copies. When it was my turn, I couldn’t help but smile as the book was placed in my hands. I walked out of the store and like all the other Potter fans, walked with one eye on the page and one on the street.
