Corporal Bill (Willy) Apiata, the first New Zealander to be
awarded a Victoria Cross since WWII, was lost for words as
he fronted a press conference held at NZ Defence HQ in
Wellington. The Prime Minister, Helen Clark had earlier
exited the weekly Cabinet meeting to announce the awarding
of the VC to Corp. Apiata and Gallantry citations to three
